Crimson Desert – Sanctum of Penitence Puzzle Solution: Guide, Walkthrough & Tips

Crimson Desert Sanctum of Penitence puzzle solution guide with tips
How to solve the Sanctum of Penitence puzzle in Crimson Desert

In Crimson Desert, the Sanctum of Penitence is one of the optional puzzles in the Elowen questline that many players do not fully understand at first. Unlike classic puzzle mechanics, this sanctum is built around a clear objective: you need to find a fusion reactor core in the surrounding ruins, transport it with your Axiom power, and then activate it in the central mechanism.

If you are stuck here, this guide covers the full process – from the location to the exact solution. The solution is simple: find the core in the ruins, bring it back, and activate it with your Power Gauntlet. Many players first look for the solution directly at the mechanism and do not realize that the real key is hidden in the surrounding ruins.

Sanctum of Penitence location

You can find the Sanctum of Penitence marked as a question mark on the map. It is located southeast of Hernand City, beyond the Goldleaf Trading Post and near another sanctum.

At the location, you will see a large ruin structure with a central mechanism that is essential to the puzzle. Before you can begin, you need to fully secure the area.

As soon as you enter the area, several waves of enemies will appear. Only after all enemies are defeated and the area has been completely cleared will the sanctum activate and the puzzle unlock.

How the Sanctum of Penitence puzzle works

The Sanctum of Penitence puzzle is built around a central mechanism that can only be activated with a fusion reactor core. This core is not located directly at the device, but in the surrounding ruins.

Your task is to find the core, pick it up with your Axiom power, and bring it back to the mechanism. Insert it there and then activate it with your Power Gauntlet.

The mechanism only reacts once both steps have been completed fully, and only then is the puzzle finished. If the core is inserted but not activated, nothing happens. I got stuck here myself for a moment because it looks like the mechanism should react immediately – but in reality, nothing happens until the core is actively triggered.

Find the fusion reactor core

The fusion reactor core is located in the southern ruins near the sanctum. From the central mechanism, head toward the ruins to a structure with a damaged floor. There you will find a staircase with a destroyed section. Jump down into the area below, where the core lies under debris.

This area is easy to miss because the entrance is not directly visible. I ran past it myself at first because the opening beneath the rubble does not immediately stand out. So make sure to look carefully for the damaged floor and the gap underneath. Pick up the fusion reactor core with your Axiom power and bring it back to the central mechanism in the sanctum.

Depending on your progress in the game, you may also be able to transport the core through your inventory system. The Kuku Iron Pot, which you unlock during the questline, can also play a role here. However, it is not strictly required for this puzzle.

Insert the core and complete the puzzle

Place the fusion reactor core onto the central pillar of the mechanism. Then climb up and use your Power Gauntlet to push the core down and activate it. Make sure the core is positioned correctly on the pillar before activating it. Only then will the mechanism respond as intended.

A common mistake is that players simply place the core down and move on – but without activating it with the Power Gauntlet, the puzzle will remain completely stuck. Once the core has been activated, the mechanism reacts and the Sanctum of Penitence puzzle is completed.

Optional reward in the ruins

While carrying the core, you can also discover a hidden chamber. In the ruins, there is an area with a fragile floor that collapses when you step on it.

Below, you will find a chest with additional equipment. It is worth picking this up before finishing the puzzle.

Sanctum of Penitence in short: The quick solution

First, defeat all enemies in the area so the sanctum activates. Then find the fusion reactor core in the southern ruins beneath a broken floor and bring it back to the sanctum.

Place the core on the central pillar and activate it with your Power Gauntlet. After that, the Sanctum of Penitence puzzle is completed.
