The magical journey through the Harry Potter world in Hogwarts Legacy starts after the character creation and a special trip in the common room of the chosen Hogwarts house. There you will immediately find a very special house chest, which you can only open later in the game.
To be able to open the house chest, you must first start a side mission and find a total of 16 flying daedalian keys. These little beasts are hiding in different places scattered around Hogwarts Castle. In this guide we will show you where you can find the keys and get the reward from the chest.
Hogwarts Legacy: The Quest for the daedalian Keys
Probably the most extraordinary chest in the entire Hogwarts Legacy video game is the house chest in the chosen Hogwarts house. This cannot be opened with any key or spell. In order to open them, you must accept a side mission and complete it.
We are talking about the side quest “The daedalian Keys”, which you will receive from the student Nellie Oggspire. Go to the courtyard of the Astronomy Wing at Hogwarts and speak to you. She tells you about the flying keys and that you can probably open cabinets with them. Meant are a total of sixteen cabinets, which can be found in Hogwarts. To open them, the winged keys are needed.
In each of the opened wooden cabinets you will find a house brand. Once you have collected all of them, you can put them into the house chest in the chambers and the treasure chest will open.
Locations of the 16 daedalian Keys in Hogwarts Legacy
To help you find the locations of the flying keys, we’ll tell you the respective quick travel punt (Flea Flame) and how to get there. To find the corresponding cabinet, you just have to follow the key.
Library annex – Astronomy tower: You will find the first flying key almost automatically. After you accept Nellie’s quest, it will be marked with a quest marker on the map in the Astronomy classroom.
Astronomy Wing – Defense Against the Dark Arts: From the Quick Travel Point, walk straight down the stairs to the Rhino Skeleton. There, the key is already waiting for its use.
Library Annex – Main Hall: Walk down the stairs to the Unicorn Fountain. Take the stairs to your right and then look to your left.
Library Annex – Main Hall: Starting again at the Flea Flame point Main Hall, go up the stairs to the right. Also on the right in a corridor the flying door opener is already waiting for you.
Library Annex – Potions Classroom: Pass through the large door in front of you and keep left, where you will go down the stairs and the key will fly towards you.
Library Annex – Library: From the Flea Flame, go right on the lower floor and immediately left to the bookshelves where the key appears.
Wings of the Bell Tower – Courtyard of the Bell Tower: Go up the stairs to the left, through the door into the North Hall and up the stairs there.
Secret Rooms – Map Chamber: After completing the quest “Jackdaw’s Last Resting Place”, go to the quick travel point. Go up both spiral staircases and open the grate door there. Go down the stairs on the left and along the corridor.
Secret Rooms – Map Chamber: Starting again from the Map Chamber travel point, go up both spiral staircases, down the stairs to the left and along the corridor where the previous key was found. Follow the passage to the dragon statue, where you can find another key.
Great Hall: You will find the first flying key on the left side of the great hall next to the fireplace.
Great Hall: To find the second key from the Great Hall quick travel point, turn backwards and run through the large doors as well as the doors behind them. You will find the key there in the entrance hall.
Great Stairs – College Yard: Go up the stairs to the left of the dragon fountain, on the left side floats the key. In winter he hides behind a snow-covered Christmas tree.
Grand Staircase – Grand Staircase Tower: Go down the spiral staircase to the right and look to the right until the key appears in front of you.
South Wing – Teacher’s Tower: Enter the room next to whose entrance door is Janitor Mr. Moon (Quest: Find all Demiguise statues). Go straight up the stairs and you will find the key.
South Wing – Clock Tower Courtyard: Open the second door on the right with the Alohomora spell (level 1) and go up the stairs. There you virtually run into the flying key.
South Wing – Hospital Wing: Turn around after the quick trip and go down the spiral staircase. Then follow the corridor to your right.
As a reward for finding the keys and opening the wooden cabinets you will receive house tokens. You can insert these tokens into the house chest in your chambers and use them to open the treasure chest. Upon successful completion of the side mission, you will be awarded the Gryffindor/Slytherin/Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff house uniform (relic), depending on the house you choose.
