Hytale – Crafting & Melting explained: Workbench, Melting Furnace & Materials

Hytale crafting and smelting explained with workbench, furnace, and materials
Workbench, furnace, and materials explained in Hytale

Crafting in Hytale is a central game system in which not only materials count. Above all, the right workbench level, suitable crafting stations and a clean processing chain – such as ore to ingots or hides to leather – are crucial. This guide explains the complete crafting system of Hytale step by step, from the start of the game to the endgame, in an understandable, reproducible and directly implementable way in the game.

The German terms are used throughout the text. The English in-game terms only appear where they are necessary for clear classification or in tables.

Inventory crafting and station crafting

There are two types of crafting in Hytale. Inventory crafting only allows very simple recipes, such as primitive tools, torches, campfires and the first workbench. Everything that really advances your progress in the game is done via placed crafting stations.

If a recipe is not displayed, this is almost never due to a lack of materials. As a rule, either the appropriate station or the required workbench level is missing.

Workbench steps and progress

Workbench stepUpgrade costsActivation
Level 1Basic recipes, early tools
Level 230x copper ingots, 20x iron ingots, 20x linen remnantsMedium game, better tools, recycling
Level 330x thorium ingots, 20x cobalt ingots, 30x heavy leather, 50x shadow fabric, 25x fire essenceEndgame crafting, adamantite & mithril

The most common bottleneck for level 2 is leftover linen. You can only obtain these from humanoid enemies – simply farming ore is not enough.

Smelting: efficiently process ore into ingots

All metals must be processed in the smelting furnace. The ratio is always one to one: one ore makes one ingot. Fuel is also required.

It is most efficient to melt ore in large quantities and place the smelting furnace near storage crates, as stations automatically use materials from adjacent crates.

Repair instead of remanufacture

Repairs are worthwhile from iron equipment onwards. Primitive and copper tools are usually replaced by you.

Recommended crafting order

  • Making primitive tools
  • Building a central workbench
  • Set up smelting furnace and process copper
  • Set up the anvil, armor workbench and tanner’s rack
  • Farm iron and produce repair kits
  • Upgrade workbench to level 2
  • Collecting thorium and cobalt
  • Upgrade workbench to level 3
  • Craft endgame equipment

FAQ

How does crafting work in Hytale?

Crafting takes place via the workbench, which is used to produce weapons, tools and equipment from collected materials.

What do you need the workbench for in Hytale?

The workbench unlocks important recipes and is necessary for advanced crafting and equipment.

How does melting work in Hytale?

In the smelting furnace, ores such as iron, thorium or cobalt are processed into ingots, which are needed for crafting and upgrades.

Where can you find materials and ores?

Ores and materials are mainly found in caves, underground areas and certain biomes.

What should you craft first?

In the beginning, simple tools, weapons and basic equipment are worthwhile for faster progress.

Are there differences between early and late game crafting?

Yes, you use simple materials in the early game and rare resources for stronger equipment in the late game.

Our conclusion

Crafting in Hytale follows clear rules. If you understand workbench levels, stations and material chains and plan them in parallel, you will get from the start of the game to the endgame without any detours. If you ignore these systems, you will get stuck despite having a full warehouse.
