In the Name of the Father is a side quest in Svartrau where you come across Father Florin and his secret congregation. You can start the quest in different ways, and at the end you’ll decide whether to accept Florin’s offer, turn him down first, or kill the priest outright. Your choice mainly determines whether Florin remains available to you as an ally later on. Completing the quest also unlocks the follow-up quest A Hero’s End.
Starting In the Name of the Father: Finding Father Florin
You’ll find Father Florin after the prologue during the day in Svartrau Cathedral. Talk to him and agree to confession. Doing so costs you one time segment.
During confession, you’ll need to admit to three sins:
- Wrath
- Envy
- Gluttony
Confess to all three sins, then choose “Tell me more” when Florin offers further help. This starts In the Name of the Father and gives you the next clue toward Florin’s hideout.
Finding Florin’s hideout via his secret office
You can also track down Florin’s hideout without going through confession. To do so, talk to the acolyte by the bell tower in the cathedral complex and help him move the crates. This gives you access to the locked room.
Inside, use Focus Mode to examine the book on the table and turn it over. On the spine of the book you’ll find the Treasury Key. Use this key to open the treasury in the northern part of the cathedral complex.
Inside the treasury, head up to the first floor and activate Focus Mode again. You’ll spot a bookshelf that can be moved. Behind it, a hidden passage leads to Florin’s secret office.
In the office, examine the map on the table. This gives you a clue to Florin’s hideout, and the corresponding area is marked on your map.
Starting In the Name of the Father without confession
You can also find Florin’s hideout on your own, saving the time segment normally spent on confession. The building you’re looking for is in the western part of Svartrau, just north of the West Gate.
Head to the building’s door and knock. Without an invitation from Florin, three men will confront you and a fight breaks out. After defeating them, search their bodies. One of the men carries the key to the door, which lets you enter Florin’s hideout.

Finding Florin’s hideout and the underground ruins
Search the building and look out for a way down. From there you’ll reach the ancient ruins beneath Svartrau. Follow the path through the ruins until you reach a larger gathering. There, you’ll meet Father Florin again, preaching to his secret congregation.
Listen to Florin’s sermon. Afterward, you can decide whether to side with him, refuse, or attack him.
Should you accept, refuse, or kill Father Florin?
1. Accept Father Florin’s offer
If you agree to work together, Father Florin remains your ally. You’ll also get access to the Ancient Key, which you need to continue through the ruins. Using it to open the corresponding door in the northern part of the ruins starts the follow-up quest A Hero’s End.
If you want to use Florin as an ally later on, you should accept his offer. Further into the game, he can give you access to a secret side entrance into Greifberg Castle, among other things.
2. Refuse Father Florin’s offer
You can turn down Florin’s offer for now and leave the gathering. This decision isn’t final: as long as Florin is alive, you can return to him later and agree to work together after all.
A Hero’s End also remains accessible either way. You’ll find the Ancient Key you need on a barrel next to the entrance to the ruins. Use the key to open the corresponding door in the northern part of the ruins to start the follow-up quest.
3. Kill Father Florin
As a third option, you can attack Father Florin. If you choose this, you’ll have to fight him and members of his congregation.
Florin will no longer be available to you as an ally afterward. This also means you lose his later help with accessing Greifberg Castle. A Hero’s End still remains reachable, though: after the fight, take the Ancient Key from Florin’s body and use it to open the corresponding door in the northern part of the ruins.
What’s the best choice with Father Florin?
If you want to keep as many options open as possible, you should accept Father Florin’s offer. This keeps Florin as your ally and lets him grant you an additional way into Greifberg Castle later on. That said, you don’t need this choice for A Hero’s End, since you can get the required Ancient Key even after refusing him or after Florin’s death.
Reward for In the Name of the Father
Completing In the Name of the Father rewards you with 250 XP and one skill point. Regardless of your choice, you can obtain the Ancient Key and use it to continue deeper into the ruins and start A Hero’s End.
In the follow-up quest, you can obtain legendary equipment among other rewards. We’ll show you how to solve A Hero’s End and get its rewards in a separate guide.
