Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: These are the differences between the two editions

Finally, the time has come and developer Game Freak is releasing Pokémon Legends: Arceus also the sequel to the popular main series. At the end of this year, you can once again enter the world of the pocket monsters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. With this, the publisher of the successful series heralds the ninth generation. Also this time you can choose between two different game variants. In our special on the game, we show you the differences between the two editions.

This is the difference of the two Pokémon editions Scarlet & Violet

Just about every Pokémon video game has two different editions released. Even though the difference is not very big, there are some details that should tempt you to buy one of the two variants. This also applies to the two new Pokémon editions that developer Game Freak will release worldwide on November 18, 2022.

Often, the difference between the two Pokémon editions lies in some exclusive Pokémon, which includes the one that can be seen on the packaging (the cover). In the ninth game generation Scarlet and Violet, the developer now goes a step further for the first time.

These are the exclusive Pokémon in Scarlet

The cover Pokémon in the Scarlet is the legendary Pokémon Koraidon. Its appearance resembles a lizard. With its strong legs, it can move quickly on the ground. Also in the water it turns out to be a true master swimmer and through the air it glides by extending its wings. Below we list the other exclusive Pokémon:

  • Larvitar (type: rock / ground)
  • Pupitar (Type: rock / ground)
  • Tyranitar (Type: ground / dark)
  • Crimanzo (Type: Fire / psychic)
  • Humanolith (Type: rock)

These are the exclusive Pokémon in Violet

The cover Pokémon in the Violet is the legendary Pokémon named Miraidon. It is able to deform its body at will. The resulting rings (or wheels) are used to move faster in open terrain or on the surface of the water. In addition, it can deform the antennas on the head and thus sail in the air. Below we list the other edition-exclusive Pokémon:

  • Bagon (Type: Dragon)
  • Shelgon (Type: Dragon)
  • Salamence (Type: Dragon / Flying)
  • Azugladis (Type: Fire / Ghost)
  • Kubuin (Type: Ice)

The new differences of the two editions

In addition to the exclusive Pokémon, Game Freak is going one step further with the new video game. This time the academy and the professor also differs. In Pokémon Scarlet, Professor Antiqua awaits you at the beginning of the game and you can visit the Orange Academy. In Pokémon Violet, however, it’s Professor Futurus and the Grape Academy.

Depending on the edition, there are also new special Pokémon forms. Some Pokémon appear in Scarlet in a past form and in Violet in a future form. Shortly before release, only the ground Pokémon Donphan has been confirmed so far.
