The open, enchanting game world of Hogwarts Legacy invites you to discover and marvel. You can cast spells, solve puzzles, prepare potions and tame some magical creatures. You will also find many chests, which are just waiting to be opened.
However, sometimes they are locked and you have to open them first. Developer Avalanche Software has come up with something very special for this and provided this game mechanic with a small mini-game. In this guide, we will introduce you to opening the chests in Hogwarts Legacy in more detail.
How to pick locks in Hogwarts Legacy
The lock picking mini-game in Hogwarts Legacy is unlocked at character level 14. Once you have reached this level, you will learn the Alohomora spell as part of the quest “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament”. This handy spell can be used to open doors or chests. If you apply this to a locked chest, the mini-game to open the lock will start automatically.
Once in the minigame, you move the magic sparks with the two controller sticks, or with the corresponding key combination. Use this to turn the lock washers until they are in the correct position and hold them in place until you hear a loud click. The bolt on the spring in the lower right of the screen pops up and you can turn the gear.
Then loosen the large bolt on the left side and you will successfully unlock the lock. You will find various chests in the game world of Hogwarts Legacy, which are sometimes harder to open than others. In general, however, the minigame for opening chests is kept quite simple.
