Fans of the Harry Potter universe have been able to consume, even downright devour, books and films in recent years. With “Harry Potter and the Enchanted Child”, even a theater play was added in 2016. Over this time, a number of Harry Potter video games were also released, which came out for PC and the various consoles of the past few years.
However, one thing was still missing: a really good video game with great graphics, which really transports you as a player into the Harry Potter world. In 2023, the time had finally come. With Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros. is finally releasing such a game. However, a dream of many players was also to experience the magical adventures together with friends. Does Hogwarts Legacy include multiplayer, co-op, or crossplay?
The fantasy role-playing game Hogwarts Legacy has been in development for a few years now, and the game’s release has already been postponed a few times. The game will be released for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and even for the Nintendo Switch console.
Developer Avalanche Software designed and developed the video game as a pure single-player game. Thus, the game will be released without a multiplayer or co-op mode at release. Since these two components are required for a crossplay feature, it will accordingly not exist.
The decision to develop the game as a single-player experience probably has several reasons. For one thing, the development team was able to focus on this and better capture the immersion of the game. This is especially important since developer Avalanche Software has not yet developed such a large and ambitious video game.
In addition, the gameplay mechanics have to be developed completely differently for single player and multiplayer or additional co-op mode. Since the gaming community all over the world would love to play Hogwarts Legacy with friends and explore the magical world together, such a multiplayer mode could still be added. Or Avalanche Software will launch a multiplayer video game in the coming years, which will also find its place in the Harry Potter universe.
