In the fantasy role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3, you can create your own character and a guardian in the character editor at the beginning of your adventure. You can choose between a total of eleven different races and twelve classes. In our guide to the game, we will introduce you to the classes and their subclasses in more detail, making it easier for you to choose.

The fantasy video game Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on the Dungeons & Dragons pen & paper role-playing game of the same name and was brought to the common gaming platforms by the Belgian developer studio Larian Studios. In the game you can choose one of the 11 races and one of the 12 classes. To make it easier for you to make your choice, we will present them to you in more detail in this guide.

  • Barbarian: As a barbarian, you let your rage guide you in battle and face your enemies in combat with superhuman strength.

These are the subclasses of the barbarian:

  • Path of the Berserker: As a Berserker, you are almost unstoppable in battle, and status-altering spells have little effect on you.
  • Path of the wild heart: If you follow the path of the wild heart you can choose between the wolf, bear, tiger, elk or eagle. Depending on the selection you get different abilities, which you can use in battle.
  • Path of Wild Magic: In battle, you go into a frenzy and use spells to inflict heavy damage on your enemies – the effects can vary.
As a barbarian, you’ll charge into battle and give your enemies a good beating.

  • Bard: As a bard, you have mastered the art of music and can either use it in battle against your enemies or support your allies. This makes the Bard a true all-rounder and an important member of a team.

These are the subclasses of the bard:

  • School of Knowledge: Expanding your knowledge allows you to learn spells from other classes and irritate your enemies in battle.
  • School of Daring: Members of this school are well equipped in the fight against enemies as well as in the support of allies.
  • School of the Sword: This class of bards develops into strong fighters and one’s combat skills can be greatly improved over time.
A bard can do more than just sing beautiful songs.

  • Cleric: As a cleric, you trust in the gods and wield powerful, often sacred magic in battle. At the same time, a high amount of magic is available and in close combat a resistant armor protects you.

These are the subclasses of the cleric:

  • Domain of Life: In combat, you focus on healing your allies.
  • Domain of Light: With the help of sacred magic, you’ll inflict a lot of damage on your enemies or protect your comrades from attacks instead.
  • Domain of Cunning: This cleric subclass is comparable to the rogue, the shadows are your favorite abode and thievery your passion.
  • Domain of Nature: Your connection to the animal and plant world is great and you can also influence it in your favor.
  • Domain of the Storm: As the name suggests, you can influence the wind and lightning and redirect their effect on your enemies.
  • Domain of War: As a cleric, you take the path of the warrior and master hand-to-hand combat.
A cleric seizes the sacred magic.

  • Druid: Druids have a deep connection to the animal world and can transform into strong beasts in battle and fight with their power.

These are the subclasses of the Druid:

  • Circle of the Land: These druids have a strong bond with the environment and thanks to this power they can quickly recover their magic power.
  • Circle of the Moon: Followers of the Circle of the Moon can change their shape and benefit from its advantages.
  • Circle of Spores: In battle, you can release poisonous spores and cast them on your enemies or seize necromantic magic.
Druids are very connected to nature and animals and can even take the form of animals.

  • Fighter: As a fighter, you master the use of a variety of weapons at a high level of combat. His defense is ensured in close combat by wearing a resistant armor.

These are the subclasses of the fighter:

  • Champion: The champion can learn two fighting styles and land critical hits more often.
  • Combat Master: A Combat Master watches his opponents very closely and can quickly learn their stats. This allows you to develop appropriate strategies for the further course of the battle and best possible for a victory.
  • Mystic Knight: If you’re into casting magic in addition to using your weapons, the Mystic Knight is the class for you. With it you can combine weapons, armor and magic in battle.
Fighters can hold their own very well in most close combat.

  • Monk: A monk masters martial arts through intensive training and tries to bring body and Ghost into harmony. In close combat, he can deal high damage even without the use of weapons.

These are the subclasses of the monk:

  • Way of the Open Hand: You can heal yourself in battle and manipulate the ki of your enemies in your favor.
  • Way of the Four Elements: You seize the Ki and thus you can use elemental powers. In combat, you can cast spells such as wind and lightning attacks on your enemies.
  • Way of the Shadow: The dark way of the monk allows you to attack from ambush and cast dark magic.
A monk masters the martial arts throughout his life, bringing body and soul into harmony.

  • Paladin: A Paladin has sworn a sacred oath and are champions of justice. They help others in a pinch and can always hold their own in a fight.

These are the subclasses of the Paladin:

  • Oath of the Ancients: These paladins can summon the power of nature and cast light magic.
  • Oath of Devotion: These paladins stand for good and can inflict greater damage on unholy enemies than on others.
  • Oath of Vengeance: As a Paladin, you are dedicated to justice and punish enemies who have done wrong.
  • Oathbreaker: The Oathbreaker is a special subclass of the Paladin. Break your own oath and you become an oathbreaker with other abilities.
Paladins have sworn an oath, which you better not break.

  • Ranger: As a ranger, you are a master of hunting and can summon animals to support you in battle.

These are the subclasses of the Ranger:

  • Lord of the Beasts: As the name suggests, an animal will accompany and protect you in every battle. Additional allied animals can, of course, be summoned during the course of the battle.
  • Hunter: As a hunter, you master melee and ranged combat and inflict high damage in battle.
  • Gloom Stalker: As a Gloom Stalker, you prefer to move in the shadows and ambush your enemies.
As a ranger, you make the forest your best friend.

  • Rogue: The Rogue can act quickly and likes to take out his enemies from ambush. As a special feature, you can disarm traps, crack locked doors and chests, or have a talent for stealing people’s items.

These are the subclasses of the rogue:

  • Arcane Deceiver: As an arcane deceiver, you can learn how to use magic in addition to the rogue traits.
  • Assassin: The Assassin has a knack for attacking enemies from ambush, using some pretty lethal methods of attack. A special feature is impersonating another person.
  • Thief: In combat, the thief uses quick attacks and can climb up obstacles away from the action.
Opening locked chests and doors or stealing from unsuspecting people – all this the rogue has mastered.

  • Wizard: As a wizard, with a lot of training, you cast the strongest magic of all classes and can improve and modify it.

These are the subclasses of the wizard:

  • Dragon Bloodline: Members of the dragon bloodline have dragon genes in them and can cast spells like Fire Breath or Lightning Magic.
  • Wild Magic: In your counterparts as a wild mage, you have chaos within you. Chaotic effects act on you, which, however, can be brought under control with time and used for your own purposes.
  • Storm Spell: As a Storm Spellcaster, you have mastered wind magic and can use it to fly or influence the weather.
You want to cast powerful spells? Then the magician is just right for you!

  • Warlocks: Warlocks have entered into a pact with the supernatural and can command powerful magic. You have fewer spells at your disposal than the mage, but they have a lot of power.

These are the subclasses of the Warlock:

  • Arch Fairy: An Arch Fairy has made a pact with a Fairy and can cast magic from the Fairy Realm.
  • Great Old Man: Thanks to the pact with the Great Old Man, you can use telepathy.
  • Fiend: As a fiend, you make a pact with a devil and can, among other things, absorb the life of defeated enemies or sometimes escape from dangerous situations with devilish luck.
You have no problem making a pact with a devil or a Fairy to become stronger? Then choose the warlock.

  • Mage: As a mage, you master the arcane powers that have been mastered in the various schools of magic. As you progress through the levels, you’ll combine modern research and ancient magic to form a powerful weapon for battle.

These are the subclasses of the mage:

  • School of Summoning: With this magic you can summon objects or creatures and use them in battle.
  • School of insight magic: With this magic you expand your perception in battle.
  • School of Evocation: With this magic you master the handling of the elements.
  • School of Illusion: With the help of this magic you can create illusions and thus effectively deceive your enemies
  • School of Necromancy: With this magic you can use dark magic and bring the undead back to life.
  • School of Enchantment: Using this magic, you are able to enter the Ghost of your enemies and, if successful, bend them to your will.
  • School of Transformation: With the help of this powerful magic, you can transform yourself or allies.
As a mage, you can acquire powerful magic and knock out the lights of your enemies.
