German developer Keen Games released a real surprise hit in early 2024 with the survival role-playing game Enshrouded. The video game is currently in the early access phase on Steam and is due to be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at the end of 2024.
A central point of contact in the game is your own flaming altar. Here you can upgrade your character or reset your invested skill points. In our guide, we show you how to upgrade and dismantle the flame altar.

Enshrouded: Upgrade the flame altar & strengthen the flame
If you want to upgrade your flame altar, you need to strengthen its flame. To do this, you need resources, which you have to farm in the game world. To do this, you have to kill normal monsters or get the head of a boss. The materials required to improve the altar flame include coal, flint and shroud wood.
If you increase the flame of your flame altar, the capacity of the altars increases. You can use an altar to teleport to it and move around the game world more quickly. The time in the miasma also increases, allowing you to enter miasma with a higher level. You also receive a bonus for the attributes to learn new skills.
To upgrade your flame altar, you need a stronger flame as well as shroud cores. You can create these with the help of the alchemist using shroud liquid and shroud spores.

Enshrouded: Dismantle or move Flame Altar (without losing your base) & reset your skill points
The flaming altar is a central game element in the survival role-playing game Enshrouded. As already mentioned above in our guide, you can skill yourself here. However, you can also reset the skill points you have used. You will need runes for this, which you will occasionally get from some of the enemies you kill. As the game progresses, you can also recycle your weapons at a smithy and gain a higher number of runes as material.
If you have built an altar and constructed buildings within the available construction radius, you can also move the altar at a later date without losing the base you have built. To do this, equip a Construction Hammer, go to the Altar of Flame and open the menu. Interact with the altar and select the option to move it to another location. If your built base is within the displayed radius, the buildings remain untouched. This allows you to design your base to your heart’s content and reposition the altar at any time.
