The recently released fantasy role-playing game Hogwarts Legacy transports you to the magical Harry Potter world of the novels and movies. For years, the gaming community has wanted a video game that is released with contemporary graphics. However, one wish of many fans has unfortunately remained unfulfilled so far: The game is a pure single player game without multiplayer or co-op mode.
We recently reported that developer Avalanche Software is not planning to release it for the time being. But what would games be without the active and reliable modder scene? Thanks to a modder team and a sci-fi cat game, Hogwarts Legacy can be played together in co-op mode shortly after release.

Play Hogwarts Legacy in co-op mode using a mod
The developers of the Hogwarts Legacy co-op mod are no strangers. They already delivered a working mod for the single-player game Skyrim and extended it with multiplayer with the “Skyrim Together” mod. As mentioned in the introduction to this article, a cat now comes into play for the quick conversion in Hogwarts Legacy. The developers were already working on a multiplayer mode for the sci-fi cat game Stray, which, like the game from the Harry Potter universe, also has as its basis the game engine called Unreal Engine (version 4.27.2).
Thanks to this groundwork and the same basis, modders were able to release a Hogwarts Legacy co-op mod just a few days after release. The mod “HogWarp” is still in its infancy, but is expected to expand over time. Currently, you can explore Hogwarts School and the surrounding area with up to 7 other players. Further actions or the joint mastering of the quests is not yet possible. However, this is still to come in the later course of development.
How to play Hogwarts Legacy with friends right now
The Hogwarts Legacy modification HogWarp can already be downloaded. Currently, however, it is still in its infancy and access is only granted for monthly support on Patreon. However, this is expected to change in the coming months and the free download will be made available. We recommend that you wait a little while, especially since bugs can still occur and you will only see the other players running around in Hogwarts Legacy so far.
