Companion locations in Baldur’s Gate 3 – Here you can find the companions

© Larian Studios

In the fantasy role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3, you can create your own character and a guardian in the character editor at the beginning of your adventure. You can choose between a total of eleven different races and twelve classes.

On your journey you will also find other companions, which you can recruit and bring into your party. In this guide to the video game, we will show you the locations of the companions and explain how you can successfully get them into your team.

Baldur’s Gate 3: These are the locations of the companions

Astarion’s location & attributes:

You can find the High Elf Astarion southwest of the roadside cliff waypoint. There he stands behind the rubble of the destroyed nautiloid near the water. When you find him, you should be careful, because he might try to ambush you.

People: High elf

Class: Rogue

Gale’s location & attributes:

You can find the mage Gale at the quick travel point “Cliffs by the Roadside”. There, he accidentally locked himself in a sealing circle. Touch his arm, which he stretches outwards and you can free him from his misery. The easiest way to free the mage is as a cleric with the help of a dice test or you let Lae’zel free him.

People: Human

Class: Mage

Halsin’s location & attributes:

You can find the druid Halsin in the Destroyed Sanctum (northeast behind a door), where he was turned into a bear and locked in a cage. To get him into your party, you have to kill the goblins in front of it and free the bear from the cage. To avoid a fight with the other goblins in the goblin camp, you can ask him to stay in the cage for now.

If you continue the quest from the goblin attack without going directly to the cage, Halsin will show up at the end of the quest line. To be able to include him in your party afterwards, you must accept Jaheira’s quest at the Inn of the Last Light in the Cursed Shadows area and complete it successfully without killing Halsin. After that, he joins your team.

People: Wood elf

Class: Druid

Jaheira’s location & attributes:

You can only bring the half-High Elf Jaheira into your team at the end of Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3. You can find her at the Inn of the Last Light in the Cursed Shadows area and get a quest from her. At the end of the second act, she will appear in the camp before you move on to the next area of the main quest.

People: Half High Elf

Class: Druid

Karlach’s location & attributes:

Karlach is a Tiefling of the Barbarian class. You can find the fighter at a stream south of the quick travel point “The Stieg Road”, where she is recovering from a fight. On the path to it you will find some hyenas and corpses.

Important: In order to bring Karlach into your party, you must not kill any Tieflings in the Emerald Grove. This will make it hard to get you and the companion Minthara on the team in one playthrough. (This would be possible if the quest series with the goblin attack is not completed).

People: Tiefling

Class: Barbarian

Lae’zel’s location & attributes:

You will find the Githyanki Lae’zel locked up in a cage. There she was lured into a trap by Tieflings and is just waiting to be freed. Before you can free them, you must either kill or scare away the evildoers, and then you can open the cage with a well-aimed shot.

If you are unable to find the cage or bypass it due to another quest, Lae’zel will reappear later in the game and can be found at the bridge, northwest of the location.

People: Githyanki

Class: Fighter

Location & Attributes of Minsc:

You can find and recruit the ranger Minsc only in Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3. Follow Jaheira’s quest line to learn his location during a conversation in the counting house. Enter the sewers under the building and follow the path until you spot him behind a sluice gate. Now kill the enemies in the area without Minsc biting the dust.

People: Human

Class: Ranger

Minthara’s location & attributes:

Since Minthara is one of the leaders of the Goblins, you should skip the Goblin Uprising quest line and head straight for the Towers of Moonrise. If you want to complete the quest line, you have to go behind the lowlanders and use the horn at the gates of the sink to summon Minthara and attack the lowlanders.

Later in the game, you will meet Minthara at the Towers of Moonrise and can recruit her after completing another quest.

People: Dark elf

Class: Paladin

Shadow Heart Location & Attributes:

The half-high elf Shadowheart is one of the most popular companions in the video game. You will find them during the quest line with Lae’zel, where you are supposed to go to the control room. On the way through the Illithid ship you will find a capsule in which Shadowheart is locked. You can either break the capsule with an attack, or find the rune to activate the console next to the capsule. The rune is located by a corpse in one of the remaining rooms (on the right side of the room).

Open the capsule and you will find it northeast of the crash site on the beach. If you haven’t freed her from the capsule, you’ll find her on the same beach further north in the capsule next to the quick travel point “Overgrown Ruins”.

People: Half High Elf

Class: Cleric

Wyll’s location & attributes:

The first encounter with Wyll takes place at the gate of the Emerald Grove, where he fights against Goblins. Enter the grove and head north. There, Wyll completes a training session with other Tieflings after successfully fending off the attack. If you have completed the quest series with Karlach before, Wyll may no longer be found there. If that’s the case, you need to complete the Goblin quest line and he will appear at a long rest in your camp.

People: Human

Class: Warlock
