After Warner Bros. announced a few days ago that several video games in the Harry Potter universe are already in the works, they have now dropped a real news bombshell. The successor to the fantasy role-playing game Hogwarts Legacy will be a live-action game.
Warner Bros. confirms: Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be a live service game
The latest announcement from publisher Warner Bros. has the web buzzing and is dividing the fan community into two camps. The video game Hogwarts Legacy was released as a purely single-player game without online components. There has also been little to no additional game content published since the release in February 2023.
Now Warner Bros. CEO and President of Global Streaming & Games J. B. Perrette has spoken out about the game’s successor. According to this, Hogwarts Legacy 2 will almost certainly be released as a live service game. Some examples of such video games are Destiny, Apex Legends, Sea Of Thieves or GTA Online.
Quote from the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference: “Secondarily, live services. Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do develop a game around, for example, Hogwarts Legacy that is a live service where people can live and build and play in that world on an ongoing basis? We think we’ve got the franchises. We’ve got some of the greatest studio capabilities, and we have a roadmap and a strategic investment plan to try and build out that business. We think there’s meaningful growth over the course of the next couple of years.”

This is a live service game and this is how it could be at Hogwarts Legacy
With a live service game, a finished video game is released, but is also provided with new game content and bug fixes long after its release. This new content can be free and smaller, or larger content updates are published, which cost money.
With Hogwarts Legacy 2, special seasons or events could be published for years after the release. Cosmetic skins for clothing or the enchanted flying broom would also be conceivable. How exactly developer Avalanche Software will bring the live service component to Hogwarts Legacy 2 remains to be seen.
